“The front passenger's seat belt is stuck and won't retract. I would like to know if there was a recall for it. It happened january 2017. I was first told by the dealership that there was a recall and then they said that there was no recall. If there was a recall, we never received any correspondence.”
NHTSA complaint #11019023, filed 2017-08“The contact owns a 1999 Toyota 4runner. The contact stated that there is an 18 inch strip of fabric unraveling on the driver's side seat belt. The more he uses it, the faster it comes apart. The fabric is holding on by a thread. The local dealer stated that because the vehicle has so many miles, they would not repair the failure. The current mileage was 269,978 and failure mileage was 230,000.”
NHTSA complaint #10227456, filed 2008-05, 230,000 miles“Consumer was traveling about 25mph on the two lane highway. There were some pedesttrians on side on the shoulders . There was a vehicle in-front of consumer, and no lights on at all. Consumer hit vehicle from behind. Dual airbag didn't go off, and seat belts didn't retract. Her daughter went through windshield and into steering wheel. There were 2 injuries.”
NHTSA complaint #866406, filed 2000-07“Was driving at approximately 65 MPH when another vehicle cut consumer's off and stopped/ driver dodged vehicle/ went over a divider/ vehicle was airborne, and flipped two and half times, landing on roof on other side of freeway. Seatbelt was worn, but shoulder belt did not lock up, causing consumer's head to go through windshield. Consumer was airlifted to hospital, and had major head and face trauma. Consumer contacted Toyota, and will send someone out to determine cause.”
NHTSA complaint #892713, filed 2001-07“Both front seat belts retractors are not retracting properly, belts would get caught in the doors. Dealer was notified, and was unwilling to assist in this matter. Consumer states that when belt buckle is caught in the door, the door swings open again suddenly and may be struck by another vehicle, arbitration was requested, however was refused due to the item no longer being in warranty, even though the vehicle is under two years old and warranty is three years overall and seat belt warranty is five years.”
