“The rear center brake light failed at approximately 90,000 miles and $450.00 dollars seems an exorbitant price for a repair. I see many more complaints about the same thing in various forums and on this site. Toyota should be making some kind of concession for owners with this problem. This can be a serious safety issue.”

NHTSA complaint #10876436, filed 2016-06, 90,147 miles

“100% of night time driving especially on country roads that are hilly we lose effective headlight performance (when going up a hill the headlights only project about 40 to 50 feet). This problem seems to be typical of the Avalon limited from others having the same problem. We are scared to drive the car at night since going 55 MPH we are covering 80 plus feet per second.”

NHTSA complaint #10178555, filed 2007-01

“The contact owns a 2007 Toyota Avalon. The contact stated that while driving at approximately 50 MPH, he noticed that the noise the turn signals made inside of the vehicle was too quiet. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealership where the contact was informed there was nothing they could do about the turn signals. The vehicle was not repaired at the time of the complaint and the failure continued. The failure mileage was approximately 200. The current mileage was approximately 44,000.”

NHTSA complaint #10335531, filed 2010-06, 200 miles

“The contact owns a 2007 Toyota Avalon. The contact stated that the low beam headlights flickered and shorted intermittently on numerous occasions. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer. The technician diagnosed that only the low beam bulbs needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired, but the failure recurred. The vehicle was taken to a second independent repair shop where it was diagnosed that the driver side headlight assembly needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 147,000.”

NHTSA complaint #10633362, filed 2014-09, 147,000 miles

“The contact owns a 2007 Toyota Avalon. The contact started the ignition, and made several attempts before the gear selector would shift into the drive position. The shifting failure occurred intermittently. In addition, the rear brake lights failed to illuminate. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer where the technician informed that the failure was contributed to the brake safety switch which was a common problem. The part was unavailable for the repair for a period of two weeks. The vehicle was repaired for the malfunction after the part became available. …”
