Selected from NHTSA records; personal details are removed. They are consumer reports, not findings.

“I noticed my windshield was getting hazed over with a sandblasted look within the first 6 months of owning my vehicle. The windshield became poked with little chips from road debris within the first year in addition to numerous cracks. The vehicle is now 2 years old and the windshield needs replacement due to extensive chips, pock, and cracks.”

NHTSA complaint #10240676, filed 2008-09, 10,000 miles

“The windshield on the 2007 Toyota Fj Cruiser is very fragile/brittle. Very small impacts from road debris initiate a break in the windshield which then quickly propagate into long cracks which can create an impairment in the field of vision. In my 26 years of owning vehicles, this is by far the most fragile windshield I have had experience with.”

NHTSA complaint #10192474, filed 2007-06, 2,860 miles

“I only had 950 miles on my Toyota Fj Cruiser when a small rock hit the windshield and cracked immediately. Before I got home the crack spread across my field of vision 12 inches from impact. The warranty does not cover impact damamge ..was told to contact my insurance company. The windshield glass seems very fragile”

NHTSA complaint #10193909, filed 2007-06, 950 miles

“Road debris during normal commute highway driving has resulted in multiple horizontal and vertical cracks in the windshield. I have replaced the windshield twice and the windshield recently cracked again. My company owns six 2007 fj cruisers and four of the vehicles windows cracked within the first four months of operation. Previous to the Fj Cruiser, I commuted along the same route in another vehicle for four years and did not sustain damage to the windshield.”

NHTSA complaint #10327786, filed 2010-04, 79,000 miles

“I was driving at a safe speed and distance from other cars, when out of nowhere a rock came at my windshield and put a large crack in it. The windshield of my Toyota 2007 fj seems to be inappropriately weak. I have driven other vehicles with a vertical windshield and have not had this problem, especially only having the vehicle less than a year. It has since happened again, but this incident I am describing is the first time it happened.”
