“I was riding my 2017 Triumph trophy se motorcycle on the highway when the pivot bolt that holds the gear shift pedal to the body of the motorcycle sheared off. As a result I was stuck in fifth gear. This is a very dangerous situation for a motorcyclist since there is no way to slow the bike down and then accelerate smoothly from low speed or stop. Obviously being stuck in any gear is dangerous and could easily result in an accident. My motorcycle was bought new about 7 months ago, had about 6,000 miles of use, and had never been damaged in any way. …”

NHTSA complaint #11118286, filed 2018-08, 6,000 miles

“Second Gear slips in the shaft drive. Upon shifting into second gear and applying throttle, the vehicle will slip a tooth causing a terrible lurch and an enormous safety issue. This issue has been going on since about 2,000 miles on my 2017 Triumph Trophy ES and is now out of warranty . People on various newsgroups have been reporting this issue since 2014. Many people report the problem becoming such an issue that 2nd gear becomes unusable at any RPM.”
