“In 2002 I purchased a new boat from sea ray boats with a shorelander trailer. It is equipped with goodyear marathon tires in size 215/75r14. They are c load rating tires with 1870 lb rating. The boat and trailer are 5500 lb maximum with all equipment and full load of fuel. Last fall in october while driving to the lake at highway speed the left front tire exploded. I pulled over and put on the spare. Goodyear replaced the tire. …”
NHTSA complaint #10161772, filed 2006-07, 3,000 miles“We purchased a set of aftermarket wheels and tires from wheelmax. The brand name was excel. My son was driving along and hit a small pothole and the wheel shattered in half. Luckily he was not traveling at a high rate of speed or he could of lost control of the car.”
NHTSA complaint #10127362, filed 2005-07“During a 1000 mile roundtrip from michigan to tennesse, 4 of the 5 (including the spare) carlisle tires (175, 80 r13) on our 2002 hi-lo blew out. The last blow out was the original spare wich had less than 600 miles on it. All the tires were properly inflated prior to the start of the trip. The trailer was overloaded nor were we speeding. The first blow out took out the septic system of the trailer sending plastic parts all across the highway. All the tires seemed to fail in the same way, the sidewall appeared to give way and the tread separated.”
NHTSA complaint #10091355, filed 2004-09“Tires blew out on 3 different occasions within 1 1/2 years of owning the trailer. Tires didn't just go flat, they exploded. Since having these emergency situations happen to me, 5 other personal friends with warrior trailers and identical tires, have had all their tires fail. All within 2 years of owning these trailers. As of todays date, none of our trailers are older than 2 years. Neither manufacturer, warrior trailers nor carlisle tires will warrant tires unless I have old ones to trade for. Unfortunately I did not know I needed to save an exploded tire for their warranty. …”
NHTSA complaint #763925, filed 2002-07“No single thing seems to have contributed to the failure. 6 of the 7 tires blew in the same place. The other was ready to blow with seperated bands. As these were radials, I went back to bias ply tires so 7 tires were bought to replace the radials. These are carlisle trailer tires.”
