Example complaints

Selected from NHTSA records; personal details are removed. They are consumer reports, not findings.

“While traveling north on i95 around mile marker 120, I had a blowout on a 5th wheel sunnybrook rv while in tow. The tire was a goodyear, 235/85/r16, wrangler ht, load range e, DOT 0903. I purchased this sunnybrook on 4/10/2003 and the tire had less than 4,000 miles use at time of incident. The blowout was on the inside mounting of the wheel and the tire parted 360 degrees where the sidewall was affixed to the tread. Weather conditions were raining and appx. 60 degrees. All tires had just been checked for proper pressure 3 hours prior to this incident. …”

NHTSA complaint #10064056, filed 2004-03, 3,521 miles

“I just purchased a van and not even 3 wks later I was driving down the hwy with all of my kids in the car and the tread came off my tire (the tire did not pop) however, the tread really damaged the front side of my car luckily I pulled over right away or who knows what could of happened.”

NHTSA complaint #10189561, filed 2007-05

“I have had two tires with tread separation on two separate occasions on my 5th wheel trailer. Tires are about 3 years old, but have very little wear. I estimate they have about 3500 miles on them tires are carlisle radial st 225/75r15.”

NHTSA complaint #10072342, filed 2004-05

“While pulling my 12.000 lb 5th wheel I had two goodyear tires, wrangler ht, lt 235 85r16, load range e, go flat on me due to tread seperation. In both cases I had pulled off the road at a rest stop or gas station and noticed the tires going flat . Had I not pulled over and stopped I believe the tires would have blown or shreaded. These two tire problems happened within three days and 400 miles of each other. The tires had about 5,000 miles on them. Goodyear tire stores replaced the tires and said they should not have seperated. I carried 80lbs. Cold air pressure.”

NHTSA complaint #10163916, filed 2006-07

“Tire blowout (three different tires on three dates within two weeks of each other, all on a two axel, 4 tire trailer, 3 tons gvw. Same tire manufacturer, make, model, and size, two tires which failed bought at the same time (oem), one was a replacement for a blown out tire bought in may 2005)”
