“On 7/1/2010 at approximately 2015 hours while riding on rt 522 manalpan new jersey the frame on my 2003 ridley motorcycle failed (collapsed) at the weld causing the bike to collide with the pavement causing injuries to my neck and back.”

NHTSA complaint #10341554, filed 2010-07, 11,000 miles

“While operating my 2003 ridley motorcycle on route 522 in manalapan new jersey, the frame failed on my motorcycle causing the front end of the bike to hit the pavement at which point I was riding on the undercarriage of the vehicle causing extensive damage and personal injury. I was able to steady the bike without having it to flip over, bringing it to a stop. I called 911 and a tow truck to report the incident and have my motorcycle towed back to my residence. This frame failure occurred without warning.”

NHTSA complaint #10341437, filed 2010-07, 11,000 miles

“Improper placement of a mounting bracket resulted in too little clearance between the tire and fender on my motorcycle trailer. The tire rubbed against the fender, caught the lead edge of the fender, and ripped the fender away resulting in a blowout on the trailer. This occured on interstate 20 in heavy traffic. My motorcycle was on the trailer at the time of the incident. The manufacturer acknowledges the design flaw with the placement of the bracket, but continues to sell the trailers without advising customers of this issue.”

NHTSA complaint #10025697, filed 2003-07, 500 miles

“Motorcycle trailer with less than 5,000 miles on it went end over end at speed when the tongue failed. The axle and wheel hubs are bent beyond repair. Unit was out of warranty but this is obviously an engineering defect.”

NHTSA complaint #10209387, filed 2007-11, 5,000 miles

“40+ yr old seat belt standards - I strongly urge the update of seat belt standards to include the obese population . This was considered in 2003 but not acted upon. The design currently supports a maximum weight of 215 lbs and while considered a large person in the 60s, the populations weight has now exceeded this maximum weight by far. The cost of redesigning and installing belts would be moot. A comfortable belt would encourage its use. Todays technology can provide a safe and comfortable belt inexpensively. …”
