Parts named most often, all years

Counts add up complaint mentions across the listed years. A complaint can name several parts.

Example complaints

One per model year, chosen for length and detail. Personal details are removed. They are consumer reports, not findings.

2013: “Intake manifold was replaced under warranty in 2015. In late 2019 the vehicle displayed a service engine warning which turned out to be the intake manifold again. Out of warranty the service cost me in excess of $1000. I see the warranty was extended on older years for the same exact reason but not the 2013. This needs to be remedied as soon as possible.”

NHTSA complaint #11311130, filed 2020-02, 120,000 miles

2019: “The first time was a couple weeks ago when the engine stalled out as I was pulling up to a stop sign in 2nd gear with the clutch depressed. I was able to start the engine back up and continue operating afterwards. The second time was just last thursday when the engine stalled as I was pulling into a parking spot, again with the clutch depressed.”

NHTSA complaint #11194315, filed 2019-04, 500 miles

2018: “I have/ had a 2018 Volkswagen golf GTI. At the time of the collision my car had just barely north of 7000 miles on it. I was driving down the road at night and I saw deer about 30-50 yards away. I was going 25-30mph, as soon as I saw the deer I applied the brakes but the pedal felt spongy and the vehicle failed to stop resulting in a collision.”
