“The rear back-up camera does not work. This occurs at least a few times a week with routine, daily driving. The vehicle starts normal and software loads normal; however, upon shifting to reverse, the camera is not displayed. Instead, I receive an error message stating that the camera is not available. My vehicle already has the recall for updated software that was intended to fix the camera issue (software version 3.5.24); however, the issue is worse with this software version. On previous versions, this issue occurred only a couple times a month. It not happens weekly.”

NHTSA complaint #11668530, filed 2025-06

“Impossible to see with backup camera at night in a low-light area. It's like not having a camera. This was never a problem with my 2015 Volvo S60 and is not a problem with my wife's 2014 Volvo XC60. The problem is that the touchscreen/dashboard brightness needs to be lowered at night so that it's not too bright. Either the screen needs to get brighter, temporarily, when backing up at night or the camera needs to provide a brighter image. Previous Volvo backup camera implementations did not have this issue. Volvo has been aware of this problem and has no fix. …”

NHTSA complaint #11632348, filed 2024-12

“When putting vehicle in reverse, camera can become stuck or not load at all impacting rear visibility. This was previously recalled and Volvo claims a remedy through software update but I believe this is processor based and they will need to replace the units with their snapdragon processor to rectify this. Their newer models include the snapdragon processor and don’t have this issue.”

NHTSA complaint #11760456, filed 2026-08

“The contact owns a 2024 Volvo S60. The contact stated that while reversing, the rear-view camera was inoperable. The contact stated that the failure recurred while reversing on one occasion, causing another vehicle that was also reversing to crash into the rear driver's side of the vehicle, near the fuel door. A Police report was filed. The contact stated that the vehicle was taken to the dealer, where a software update was performed in March 2025 and January 2026; however, the failure persisted. …”
