“Vehicle throttle became unstable, causing the vehicle to not maintain steady acceleration even when the accelerator pedal was in a steady position. Diagnosed as failing throttle position sensor. Volvo refused to repair under extended warranty or recall since the vehicle was 12 months past the expiration of the 10 year, 200,000 mile extended warranty on power train. Volvo failed to notify me of the recall, even though my vehicle has been registered at my current home address since 2006.”
NHTSA complaint #10440620, filed 2011-12, 132,026 miles“2000 Volvo S70: snap ring holding axle to transmission broke while driving at low speed. Coasted to stop; towed to repair shop. No other damage. However, shop had 1999 Volvo in for same complaint. That driver's axle was damaged when it loosened and had to be replaced.”
NHTSA complaint #10176127, filed 2006-12, 79,000 miles“Car began to lose acceleration on 10-15-05 and would take a full 2 min to reach 55 MPH with only minimal throttle depression (any more than only the least would cause the drive train to jerk and refuse to propel the car at all). If the car was pulled over and restarted the problem would correct itself for a while (sometimes the gap in between malfunctions would be several hours initially) but would always return. Ran trouble codes and the oxygen sensor was initially faulty. …”
NHTSA complaint #10156021, filed 2006-04, 115,000 miles“Dt: the vehicle lost power, the engine lights came on. Had to pull over to the side and restart the vehicle. Took vehicle to the dealer, who replaced the throttle body. Lost power when shifting from third to fourth gear 80% of the time. The stc light comes on at the same time when losing power. This happened intermittently. Checked the sensors and let the dealer know it was happening again .then they said vehicle needed a module. This happened on november 1, 2004.”
NHTSA complaint #10131113, filed 2005-09“When accelerating consumer heard a knocking noise, and vehicle lost acceleration. Consumer contacted dealership about this issue, and mechanic determined that transmission failed.”
