“While driving 1999 Volvo V70, the car rolled to a stop. Vehicle had to be towed. Front drive axle was rusted out, broken, and had to be replaced. Old part not available. Repair bill available; repair technician available for contact.”

NHTSA complaint #10389913, filed 2011-03, 250,100 miles

“The indicator light on the gear selector has burnt out. There's a 'signal-orange' colored indicator mark that tracks the gear selector against the slate grey color shift assembly put there as a safety feature so you know what gear you're in and don't accidentally take off in an unintended direction, forward or reverse, or roll into someone while unintentionally finding yourself in neutral. Well now at night unless you turn on the interior light, you can just guess what gear you're in because when it's dark in the cab you can't see at all what's what as far a gear selection. …”

NHTSA complaint #10238101, filed 2008-08, 80,000 miles

“The contact stated while driving, at various speeds, the electronic throttle control module light illuminated followed by the vehicle operating at a reduced speed. The vehicle was seen by an authorized dealership for inspection and replaced the computer, but the problem returned. The vehicle was taken back to the dealer. The service department replaced the battery. Afterwards, the problem persisted and the vehicle was again seen by the dealer. The dealer determined the vehicle needed a new computer and the vehicle is currently at the dealer awaiting this replacement. …”

NHTSA complaint #10153172, filed 2006-03, 117,212 miles

“The problem is a grinding/vibration when the car gets hot. The dealer/Volvo say it is the viscouis coupling. Neither one know how to fix. The dealership said they have at least two brand new cars that they know about on their lot that have the same problem (wonder what they will do with these cars?).I think this is a very big problem. Please help......”

NHTSA complaint #708796, filed 1999-07

“A drivetrain vibration common to the Volvo xc awd wore through the heat shield and was wearing through the plastic gas tank. While investigating the vibration, they found the viscous coupling housing had worn through the shield and tank and replaced the tank.”
