Example complaints

Electrical system: “After driving for about 20 minutes in 77f, sunny, dry conditions, I'd come off the freeway and stopped for about 15 seconds at a light to make a left turn. When I started making the left, someone blew through the red light to turn right coming from the opposite direction right in front of me. I let off the throttle but the throttle did not release. I was going about 15-20mph with the engine around 2,000rpm in, most likely, third gear. …”

NHTSA complaint #10714553, filed 2015-05, 94,057 miles

Seat belts: “Nothing we know of caused this failure except folding the rear seat down in the cargo position. When we raised the seat up the seat belt wouldn't release. Now we don't have a seat we can use and no operating seatbelt. I tried to get the roll to release then took it to a dealer who refused to warranty it since I tried to unjam it.”

NHTSA complaint #10352254, filed 2010-08, 84,750 miles

Air bags: “The driver airbag has been under recall per letter dated 12/14/21, NHTSA RECALL #21V-800 We scheduled initial repair with dealer upon receipt of notice last December, however, this has not been accomplished and as of 9/23/22 as we are continually told the part needed remains on backorder. We had contacted Volvo directly on 3/31/22 and they stated the dealer would have to order the part. …”

NHTSA complaint #11486006, filed 2022-09

Suspension: “My wife was driving alone in her 07 Volvo stationwagon on a routine errand down the I-83 interstate at 65 MPH on a straight section when she heard a loud bang; like someone had shot at the car on the right side. Having been unnerved by the loud noise and not knowing what it was, she took the exit ramp slowly, and the car slid out a bit to the right like it was on ice, but there was no ice present. Upon inspection later, the right rear coil spring had snapped in two. …”
