“I am reporting a serious and ongoing safety defect involving my 2024 Volvo XC90. The vehicle has experienced intermittent unintended acceleration, intermittent loss of safety and alert systems, and false obstacle detection that triggers unexpected braking or steering input. These events occur randomly and without warning, and are not tied to a specific driver, key, driving condition, or user behavior. At times, the vehicle accelerates on its own without driver input. …”
NHTSA complaint #11714266, filed 2026-01“The safety sub system completely stop working periodically. When it occurs: - the blind spot indicators do not light up when a car is in blind spot - turn signals stop making sound. Not sure if they still function - collision system stops making sound. Sometimes stops showing near objects and walls. This has happened about 7 times since purchase of the car, and requires a full computer reboot to fix it. It’s random, so you don’t know it’s failed until driving and something doesn’t work. I don’t have pictures but I have a video of it I can share if someone wants to see some of the issues. …”
NHTSA complaint #11675202, filed 2025-07“While driving 45-50 miles per hour on a large main street in orange county with a car 6-7 car lengths ahead and the Volvo XC90 automatically forced the vehicle to stop on a dime for no apparent reason. Everyone in the car was thrown forward into the locking seatbelts. Thankfully no one was injured.”
NHTSA complaint #11773120, filed 2026-10“Since purchasing this vehicle in October 2023 I have had multiple issues with the fuel door not opening, the turn indicator light not working, the backup cmera and sensors continue to engage the rear brake intervention system when there's nothing behind the vehicle.”
