“2006 Yamaha fjr 1300 a. Wire connection near fuel tank corroded and was melting. Headlamps quit, along with horn, turn signals. Engine would miss with the turn signal switch in the left or right position. I was in the dark, when the lights quit. I have heard of other fjr 1300 owners with the same problem.”

NHTSA complaint #10291767, filed 2009-11, 29,457 miles

“Total failure of the ignition switch while in traffic. Had just turned left onto a highway and the bike just shut down. I was lucky that I could get to the side of the road right away. This could have been bad with a different mix of traffic. I had no warning at all that anything was wrong.”

NHTSA complaint #10236674, filed 2008-08, 19,500 miles

“I commute on my motorcycle nearly every day throughout the year. This is the reason I have a motorcycle. My work start time is at 5:30am so I commute to work in the dark year round. I also travel a section of road that takes me through a 6 mile canyon that has no street lighting so the road is completely dark and has many turns while traveling at near the 65mph speed limit. Two weeks ago while traveling this section I flipped the headlight brights switch which caused my headlights to go completely out. Flipping the switch back to normal lights did not turn them back on. …”

NHTSA complaint #10839359, filed 2016-03, 92,000 miles

“Started motorcycle. Wife and I exited our driveway onto road. Traveled several hundred feet down the road. Complete loss of power while underway due to an ignition switch failure. Luckily no injuries. Temporarily bypassed (hot wired) ignition switch.”

NHTSA complaint #10245268, filed 2008-10, 10,812 miles

“Riding in western virginia, on a warm saturday afternoon, I noticed my turn signal indicator lights were both on, and flashed weirdly when I used them. I also lost the electric adjustable windshield, and discovered when I stopped that I had no headlights. This was painful because the ride I was on involved a lot of night time riding. Luckily this happened during the day and I was able to use my auxiliary lights that night. Upon dis-assembly, a ground spider (s6) under the nose of the bike, not covered or inspected by the current recall was burned to a crisp. …”
