“Sticking valves caused the motorcycle to run very poorly in traffic and loss of power, resulting in necessary stops on highways. I have previously spoken with Yamaha dealers, and they have tried to make it seem like it was my fault. They said a valve job would run around $1000.00. This problem had been occurrring since the motorcycle was 1 month old in january 2005.”
NHTSA complaint #10191400, filed 2007-05, 500 miles“Rear cylinder exhaust valve sticks causing engine to lose power, back fire, cut out & at times stall. Dealer rejetted carburetor, cleaned air filter, installed new spark plugs & shock treated fuel system with ring free. Noted on repair invoice they would not be liable for further repairs. Condition is coming back after 2000 miles. I need to keep adding ring free to make bike run.”
NHTSA complaint #10192875, filed 2007-06, 8,000 miles“Motorcycle engine will not run properly due to valves sticking. Back fires and dies in intersections. Back fires and slows on freeway. We believe it is a manufacturing defect that should be addressed by the motorcycle maker. They say it was a maintenance issue. All maintenance has been done as per the manual.”
