2006: “When I was riding my motorcycle on 04/03/2018 temperature was 78 degrees. Whenever I stopped and shut engine off then try to restart engine ,gasoline poured out of the breather ,carbureator spilling gas on the hot engine making that a fire hazard. It did it several times during the day. I think this needs to be look at it makes a very dangerous situation. Thank you”
NHTSA complaint #11083455, filed 2018-04, 11,384 miles2007: “I recently took a motorcycle trip to colorado, while there I had several incidents where on hot days my motorcycle would overflow gas onto hot engine and pipes. This is a known problem with this bike and I feel that, due to the amount of fuel spilling onto hot engine and pipes, it's only a matter of time before a fire and/or explosion occurs.”
NHTSA complaint #10277316, filed 2009-07, 7,000 miles2005: “I have a 2005 Yamaha road star. Since the purchase of this bike I have had problems with sticking valves on the rear cylinder. It's the exhaust valve. When this happened it was a dangerous ride. Heavy traffic with no where to go. Seems Yamaha is aware of this situation. It's dangerous to ride. Power goes to nothing and the bike stalls during shifting.”
