“Partially closed drivers door on seat belt. Opened door removed seat belt. Then after driving home I was unable to open the drivers door with or without the automatic door locks nor from the inside or outside or with a key. Had to climb out of the car over the center console or out the window. This seems like something that should not happen and a safety concern if needing to exit the car swiftly.”

The contact stated that while attempting to open the door, the contact’s grandson exited the vehicle, and the door closed independently. The contact stated that his daughter had experienced the door closing independently onto her right hand while exiting the vehicle. No warning light was illuminated. A dealer was contacted. The vehicle was diagnosed over the phone by the dealer, and the contact was informed that the door check strap needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure but offered no assistance. …”
