“I smelled a funny smell, and then the entire dash went black. A engine malfunction warning came on. I stopped right away, got out of the car just as it burst into flames. The entire incident happened in a matter of seconds.”

NHTSA complaint #10765109, filed 2015-09, 1,700 miles

“Bmw 428I shut off while driving on a busy freeway. I was barely able to glide to the side. Unable to re-start with the vehicle partially blocking the slow lane. After few minutes it started again”

NHTSA complaint #11269065, filed 2019-10, 10 miles

“Turbo lines leaking. My model vehicle is the same N20 engine components that were installed with the f30s in prior years. BMW had an in house recall for specific models and vins but did not include mine even though they were installed with the same issues that the previous models had. Now, the turbo lines are leaking, my car only has 85000. I shouldn’t have to pay over 3k for them to correct this.”

NHTSA complaint #11644984, filed 2025-02

“The manufacturer has failed or is unable to remedy this safety recall for my vehicle in a timely manner. Issue: 1 open recall since Aug 13, 2024 for: ENGINE COOLANT PUMP: The electrical connector of the engine coolant pump could become damaged. Small drops of liquid from the positive crankcase ventilation (PCV) system could drip down onto the electrical connector of the pump.”

NHTSA complaint #11659438, filed 2025-05

“The contact owns a 2015 BMW 428I. The contact was notified of NHTSA Campaign Number: 24V608000 (Engine and Engine Cooling, Electrical System); however, the part to do the recall repair was not yet available. The local dealer was made aware of the issue and confirmed that parts were not yet available. The contact stated that an abnormal oil burning odor was coming from the vehicle. The check engine warning light became illuminated. …”
