“Today is 1/21/26. My car has had problems since 12/4/25 when I started getting drivetrain warning lights. After call roadside assistance prompts, it will start, but a drivetrain fault appears on the dash. Many faults have appeared at the dealer and I have it in writing that there is nothing more they can do. They escalated the issue to BMW with no resolution, to date. I have requested a buy-back and they no longer return my calls. In terms of safety, I'm not sure what could happen if the drivetrain fault light is on. …”
NHTSA complaint #11712606, filed 2026-01“Incident occurred on 9-15-26 at approx. 1:16 PM (PST) and 6205 miles. Vehicle uncontrollably rolled/moved opposite to the selected drive gear while waiting for the clutch to engage. Had stopped on a flat paved road to allow a pedestrian to cross by, but when I released the brake pedal, the vehicle unexpectedly moved backwards immediately - despite being in drive gear. Had to slam on brakes to stop this. Fortunately, no vehicle was behind me otherwise could have collided. No warning messages, etc. prior to this incident.”
NHTSA complaint #11764672, filed 2026-09“Since November 2025, my 2025 BMW X1 has repeatedly lost propulsion while I was driving, typically after the dashboard screens suddenly crash and reboot. When this happens, the vehicle stops responding to the accelerator, displays the wrong gear, or requires me to shut it completely off in traffic before it will move again. The vehicle has been in the shop for more than 130 days, and there have been seven documented incidents, several supported by photos and videos showing the failures as they occurred. Despite multiple repair attempts, BMW has been unable to identify or correct the problem. …”
NHTSA complaint #11745444, filed 2026-06“The contact owns a 2025 BMW 1X. The contact stated while at an ATM, the vehicle was shifted into drive(D), but the vehicle unintendedly shifted into park(P) and failed to move. There were no warning lights illuminated. The contact stated that the failure had occurred in an enclosed area. The contact was unable to exit the vehicle. The contact continued to restart the vehicle. The Police was contacted for assistance. The vehicle was released approximately 10 minutes later. While exiting the vehicle, the alarm engaged. The local dealer was contacted, and an unknown diagnosis was provided. …”
NHTSA complaint #11688060, filed 2025-09, 4,300 miles“As with other complaints, the dual clutch transmission/powertrain is faulty. The BMW dealership and BMW North America are unwilling to acknowledge the safety issue, issue a recall, or buy back. Safety issues are: •Delayed/hesitant response —a lag of up to several seconds between pressing the accelerator and the car actually moving, especially at low speed or when pulling out from a stop. •Jerky, clunky low-speed behavior — rough engagement in stop-and-go traffic or when transitioning between Park/Drive/Reverse. …”
