“This is in regard to the automatic emergency braking function in my new 2027 Chevrolet Bolt. While driving, the emergency braking system suddenly activated the brakes. It was unanticipated, unnecessary, and violent to the extent my wife, in the passenger seat, later reported headache and neck pain. I did not report this to the dealer and it has not been inspected. Apparently, this is what the car is designed to do. I have managed to turn off this system but it defaults to on every time I turn the car off. There appears no permanent way to deactivate this system.”

NHTSA complaint #11765487, filed 2026-09

“The brake pedal can easily become disconnected from the electronic brake booster behind the firewall. When this happens, it stops all driver aids. The safety issue is it can happen while driving, and if using adaptive cruise control, or GM super cruise, if one pedal driving is on, it can without warning substantially slow the car, and has the potential to cause an accident. Its not too far to think the dislodging can cause the boost arm to be placed in a position to prevent full brakeing either. I have not taken it in because it is a design flaw of the system I believe. …”

NHTSA complaint #11760397, filed 2026-08

“The contact owns a 2027 Chevrolet Bolt EV. The contact stated that while driving approximately 65 MPH with the Adaptive Cruise Control activated, the braking system suddenly activated causing the vehicle to abruptly decelerate when another vehicle passed by. The contact stated that the failure had occurred on two separate occasions while being overtaken by another vehicle on the passenger’s and driver’s sides. The vehicle was taken to the local dealer to be inspected; however, no cause for the failure was found. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 900.”
