Example complaints

Brakes: “This is in regard to the automatic emergency braking function in my new 2027 Chevrolet Bolt. While driving, the emergency braking system suddenly activated the brakes. It was unanticipated, unnecessary, and violent to the extent my wife, in the passenger seat, later reported headache and neck pain. I did not report this to the dealer and it has not been inspected. Apparently, this is what the car is designed to do. I have managed to turn off this system but it defaults to on every time I turn the car off. There appears no permanent way to deactivate this system.”

NHTSA complaint #11765487, filed 2026-09

Forward collision avoidance: “The brake pedal can easily become disconnected from the electronic brake booster behind the firewall. When this happens, it stops all driver aids. The safety issue is it can happen while driving, and if using adaptive cruise control, or GM super cruise, if one pedal driving is on, it can without warning substantially slow the car, and has the potential to cause an accident. Its not too far to think the dislodging can cause the boost arm to be placed in a position to prevent full brakeing either. I have not taken it in because it is a design flaw of the system I believe. …”

NHTSA complaint #11760397, filed 2026-08

Electrical system: “2027 CHEVROLET BOLT – SUDDEN FORWARD LURCH / PROPULSION EVENT WITH MULTIPLE COMMUNICATION FAULT CODES While driving my new 2027 Chevrolet Bolt, I was stopped at a traffic light. When the light changed, I applied the accelerator gently to move forward. The vehicle suddenly produced a loud bang or clunk and lurched sharply forward. All of the yellow instrument panel lights flashed on for a few seconds. The acceleration was abrupt and substantially different from my accelerator input. Surrounding drivers were alarmed. …”

NHTSA complaint #11755494, filed 2026-08

Transmission and drivetrain: “I am reporting a serious vehicle control hazard concerning the One-Pedal Driving (OPD) implementation on the 2027 Chevrolet Bolt RS. The vehicle enforces automatic rolling/creeping behaviors in reverse, creating a dangerous conflict with muscle memory. When One-Pedal Driving is active, a driver expects the vehicle to come to a complete stop and hold when lifting off the accelerator. However, because the system does not allow the customization or complete disablement of OPD or the creep function while in reverse gear, it introduces a severe human-factors safety risk during low-speed maneuvers. …”
