Example complaints

Selected from NHTSA records; personal details are removed. They are consumer reports, not findings.

“About 2.5 years ago my front seat belts began to malfunction. The seat belt retractors on both sides will not engage. Simply put the seat belts will not provide resistance to any forward momentum. I contacted several Chevrolet dealerships in the area and was given the same answer by all. They would be glad to replace the seat belts at my expense. I later called general motors and reported my problem to them. The lady I spoke with said that since my truck was out of warranty there was nothing she could do. I insisted to her that if I were involved in an accident that I would have no protection. …”

NHTSA complaint #734876, filed 2000-10

“Seatbelts were replaced by dealer in 1996 free of charg. Currently, they are worn out again in same place. The cable that holds the seat belt buckle to the floor failed.”

NHTSA complaint #876967, filed 2000-12
