“I purchased a 1996 chevy Cavalier in 1999 and from the beginning had problems with the check engine light continually on etc. From 1999 to sept 2010 - I took it to several chevy dealers while it was under warranty and they never fixed the problem completely and the lights remained on. I was told to put fuel injection cleaner in it by one car dealer of course that didn't work. Years later and many repairs, engine rebuilt, thermostat replaced, water pumps, fans etc.. …”
NHTSA complaint #10354784, filed 2010-09, 226,250 miles“In april 2002 I received a letter from teh recall information processing center, royal oak, mi in regards to a defect with the ignition switch. When I checked the internet NHTSA I found out that in fact this was not the only recall on my car. The is also an airbag, check engine light and mud flip kit recall. I contacted the dealer and brought my car in to repair all these defects. The next day the check engine light came on again and the car was running rough again. I contacted the dealership and reported the problem. …”
NHTSA complaint #765781, filed 2002-08“My ets off light and my check engine light has been illuminated for the past 10 months. The code 1810, which is the tcc switch, has shown when my car has been scanned. My car has been seen by several mechanics . The switch has been replaced twice and it did not solve the problem. The mechanics told me that I needed a new transmission. I had a new transmission put in. The lights came back on which caused my car not to shift properly. All the mechanics that have looked at my car said that getting a new transmission would fix the problem. Which it has not. What can you recommend I do. …”
NHTSA complaint #739647, filed 2001-01“This is in regard to the placement of the seat belts in the back seat of the Cavalier. When used in conjuction with infant car seats. All the infant seat manufacturers have issued warnings against using any of their seats with cars where the seat belt is anchored forward at the crease, which is the case with the 96 cavelier. I was told to contact my vehicle manufacturer, who then told me to talk to the seat manufacturer, getting me no where at all. Indeed the only advice I could get was to tighten it as much as I could and it would probably be alright. …”
NHTSA complaint #703420, filed 1999-02“There are two warning labels on child seat regarding weight requirements that are contradicting each other. One label stated 20 lbs for rear facing. The other stated rear facing 5-30 lbs. When a parent contacted envenflo and tried to obtain an owner's manual, they were told all pertinent information was on the child seat stickers. Evenflo didn't respond to parent emails.”
