“The plastic blend arm for the heater selector motor broke, which seems to be happening on the Equinox cars. It causes the heater to blow cold air only. This happened on a city street while traveling to the store. When I turned the heater on it made a funny noise like it wasn't engaging. The windows wouldn't defrost while I was driving.”

NHTSA complaint #10704768, filed 2015-04, 122,773 miles

“1. My ABS and traction control light come on almost everytime I drive the car. Most of the time they come on for no reason, just driving on smooth/good road conditions they come on or pulling out of a driveway. 2. Doesn't matter if the ABS light is on or off, I've had to smash down on the brake pedal numerous times so I don't hit the car in front of me because the breaks feel like they aren't grabbing. Luckily my daughter wasn't in the car any of the times it's happened. I had the car looked at by a technician at a chevy dealership and he found no issues with the brakes. 3. …”

NHTSA complaint #11099127, filed 2018-06, 150,000 miles

“One day I noticed the brakes were harder than normal to push to stop the car and then my ABS/traction control lights would come on, when they did the car would brake fine. This now happens on a daily basis. Sometimes the lights come on as soon as I start the car and sometimes it takes a few minutes of driving for the lights to come on, until they do, braking is scary. Both front hubs, both front sensors, rotors and pads have been replaced and still ABS/traction control light coming on. Also had all four tires air pressure checked. …”

NHTSA complaint #10574109, filed 2014-03, 115,000 miles

“A. I began to notice that at times the car would not start the first time I turned the key. I would have to turn the key to off position and try again, this could sometimes take a couple of times. The dealer did state that it was indeed the ignition switch. B. We also have an issue with the ignition when you turn it over it continues to try to start after it is running. The only way to make is stop is to step on the gas. C. When the car is shut off with the wipers or heater or even the radio on; when we start the Equinox, there is smoke coming out of the steering wheel area. …”
