Selected from NHTSA records; personal details are removed. They are consumer reports, not findings.

“I had my brakes inspected when I could hear a scraping sound and was told that the fronts were considerably worn and needed to be replaced but that the rear calipers did not close properly causing excess wear on the front brakes. I recently had the front brakes restored, but did not have the rear ones done due to excessively high cost ($550.00 estimate)”

NHTSA complaint #714173, filed 1999-11

“I had problems with the brakes locking up on the car, four different times. I had to have the car hauled on a roll back. I called the dealer and was told no one else had a problem. Then it got to the point where the brakes would go completely out on the car. We took it to sutlif Chevrolet they kept the car for three weeks and did not know how to fix the problem. The first week I had to pay for a rental car, then I called them and they gave me a loner. They had it for three weeks and it still was not fixed. I could not drive the car.”

NHTSA complaint #717870, filed 2000-01

“There was a recall letter on the brakes I had received early in the year but I had miss placed it and I believe it was the problem that the letter was addressing.”

NHTSA complaint #727432, filed 2000-08

“1992 Lumina sedan brake speed bleeders were changed 3 times. The consumer ordered brake bleeders from a different company than where he ordered them before, but when he received them, he noticed they didn't have any sealer or thread locker on them to help prevent air and/or brake fluid from leaking.”

NHTSA complaint #10148624, filed 2006-01

“The rear ABS brakes lock up on dry surface. Consumer states problem with brakes is not with the ABS, it is the design of the rear calipers, calipers freeze up due to corrosion in the caliper slider sleeve bore, this causes brakes to be heated and causes them to fade, consumer was charged for an aftermarket slider kit with bronze sleeve bushings.”

NHTSA complaint #802363, filed 1997-01
