“Rear brakes don't adjust. At 78,000 miles rear linings have only worn about 10%. Had same problem with identical 1995 Lumina with 59,000 miles we owned in january 98. Both cars required high pedal effort. Dealer adjusted rear brakes and told us that parking brake must be used frequently to self adjust rear brakes. Car still requires higher pedal effort than other cars I have driven.”
NHTSA complaint #702391, filed 1999-01“On a road test for a customer I lost the brakes, as it developed a hard pedal without power assist. The condition was intermittent. Upon investigation I discovered the vacuum hose from the back of the intake to the power booster was softened with oil contamination and had begun to collapse cutting off vac to the booster. I installed a new hose assembly but this came out of nowhere and could cause problems for any driver at any time. The vehicle was a 1995 chevy Lumina 3.4 v6. Clearance is very tight where the hose runs. I think GM should go to a hard hose instead of a performed rubber hose. …”
NHTSA complaint #10140302, filed 2005-10“Vehicle has experienced electrical problems, the battery failed and was replaced, the spark plug and spark plug wires were faulty and were replaced, the dis module was replaced due to vehicle lacking power, ignition module was replaced, and a fuel injector wire was replaced due to causing ses light to illuminate and causing vehicle to not accelerate properly.”
NHTSA complaint #564059, filed 2002-01“Consumer's wife was in an accident because brakes locked up. The brake light never illuminated. She went to mobile on the computer, it shows that wheels were locked up. The brake system computer is still in locked - skid mode. The light illuminates after turning the key into on position.”
NHTSA complaint #8004314, filed 2002-02“When ever applying the brakes vehicle failed to stop, resulting in extended stopping distance. Also, brake pedal went all the way to floor, and vehicle slid. Took vehicle to an independent mechanic & who informed consumer that problem wa the ABS braking system. Was nothing mechanical. Has not taken vehicle to dealer as of yet.”
