“I experienced a sudden tread separation on a goodrich passenger tire, leading to immediate and complete tire deflation. Luckily, I had just pulled out of a parking lot and was traveling <5mph. On inspection, the other 3 tires showed initial signes of similar failure, and all have been replaced.”

NHTSA complaint #10633081, filed 2014-09, 127,980 miles

“2001 Malibu, auto theft that was installed by chevy keeps preventing my car from starting and it has to be towed this has happen 5 times in the last month. This car has had the fuel pump replace, ignition replace, it wear my tires down unevenly. 2 days after I got the car I returned for 2 weeks due to the fact that the rear end go opposite of front and now it is doing it again. This car has cost me over $2000.00 in the last 6 months. The paint is chipping away like my baretta did.”

NHTSA complaint #10157669, filed 2006-05, 89,000 miles

“Dt:has had to replace three different sets of tires because the tread has separated from the tire and the rim will not hold air. The last time he had them replaced they put too much air in the tire and another dealer checked the tire pressure and told caller it was dangerous to have that much air pressure in the tires. Now he can't get in touch with firestone at all and the dealer will no longer help or give him the phone number to firestone.”

NHTSA complaint #10120645, filed 2005-05, 5 miles

“Both passenger side tires were flat a month after purchase because the air was seeping out. The both tires were replaced with the same make and model. However, rear passenger side tire blew out while driving on the highway.”

NHTSA complaint #10061565, filed 2004-03, 45,000 miles

“The right front tire became flat at 75 MPH on I-15 in the california desert. When I stopped the car and examined the tire, I found that the tire was completely shredded and the car was resting on the metal rim. The only tire residue were the tire beads on the inside of the rim. The inside of the wheel-well had extensive damage to all the mud shields, indicative of the tire thread seperating from the tire. The outside temperature at the time was 81 degrees. Drove 30 miles into the next town on the doughnut tire, and found a tire dealer. Bought 4 new non-firestone tires. …”
