“Takata inflators, the car that I own smells like gasoline everyday and each time that the car is started in the morning. When I turn on the heat or air the gas smell is even stronger I am afraid that the car will one day explode even without me smoking.”

NHTSA complaint #11156807, filed 2018-12, 144,700 miles

“I was traveling at 60 and took my foot off gas to decelerate and car wouldn't go less than 50. Engine RPM's wouldn't go below 2500. I could still stop car with brakes but this appears to be a constant problem and not intermittent like the person reported a few days ago. I checked the throttle linkage because I thought the non functioning cruise control could be affecting engine speed but neither cable kept the flap from bottoming out.”

NHTSA complaint #10593966, filed 2014-05, 129,000 miles

“There has been a failure to the fuel system several different occasions. Fuel regulator has been replaced 3 different times. A fuel pump was purchased 300$ to replace old one. The right tail light has been bogging on and off almost caused several different accidents. I would like to know if I can sell this vehicle or get what I paid for it atleast? I shall take further legal action until something is done.”

NHTSA complaint #10264447, filed 2009-04, 80,000 miles

“Dear NHTSA representative, I want to raise a concern about GM's passlock system that turns off fuel injectors to prevent car theft. My 2001 chevy Malibu's engine turned off in the middle of the road while driving on friday, sept 18th. Luckily there were no accidents. I am very sure the cause is the passlock system because the theft system light came on and I had to reset the passlock system by keeping the key in the on position for 10 minutes. Reading online automotive blogs, it appears that many people face the same problem. …”

NHTSA complaint #10767596, filed 2015-09, 73,000 miles

“I have had to replace the fuel pump on my 2001 chevy Malibu twice. I also had to replace the fuel filter twice after that. I keep getting black residue in the filter that plugs it up. I have tried to get gas at different stations but that has not helped. The car has left me stranded 4 times now. The local chevy dealer has no explanation on what the black residue is.”
