“Auto/stop is having issues. When in gauged it stalls the car out and will not allow it to turn back over. I have been in traffic at a stop light several times when this has happened and almost got into an accident because of it. Also I am having an issue with my rpms jumping and the car losing power. I have replaced both the intake and the exhaust solenoid and still lose power.”

NHTSA complaint #11351565, filed 2020-08, 110,000 miles

“When start stop was engaged at light the car shut off everything on the dash and radio went blank. It auto started and AC was no longer working. Afterwards I smelled a slight burning scent (in louisiana traffic, I was unsure it was me) but car ran fine. When start stop engaged there was a longer than normal pause before would auto start would engage. It would intermittently fail to crank on occasion for a few key turns. Engine light came on. Trunk would mysteriously pop open. …”

NHTSA complaint #11394952, filed 2021-02, 53,079 miles

“I bought the new Malibu with only 3 miles on the odometer. The gas tank was filled up at the dealership but the gas gauge shows it's only 7/8 filled. My dealer has checked for recalls and bulletins and said they even checked it and find nothing wrong. I was told when I fill the tank to not leave the handle on auto fill but to hold the handle to fill it and that should help but it doesn't!”

NHTSA complaint #10682446, filed 2015-02, 100 miles

“The engine variable timing oil control valve is malfunctioning as I have seen with thousands of others on the internet. Gm is no longer making the part. I was driving my car on a highway and the check engine light came on. The car drove normally, but when I attempted to accelerate to merge onto another highway, the car seemingly stopped accelerating even with my foot on the gas. The car was stuck with no propulsion for a few seconds before I could accelerate again. The car now only slowly accelerates, or dies if I try to accelerate quickly. …”

NHTSA complaint #11323530, filed 2020-05, 82,000 miles

“On 7/5/20 the vehicle was in motion going down the highway and the high pressure fuel pump mounted on the engine broke lose, dropped into the engine and tore apart the engine. Was towed and fixed by closest GM dealership (deery brothers, west burlington, ia). There is a recall for a bad weld on the high pressure fuel pump for 2016-2018 Malibu's resulting in the exact issue I had on my 2014. The dealership said GM, Chevrolet and the dealership (which is a GM certified dealership where I bought the car certified pre-owned in 2018) said they all bared no responsibility for the issue. …”
