“Aluminum wheels corrode causing tires to leak air. 60,000 miles in the truck. The vehicle wasn't even driven in the snow here in michigan for the 1st 5 years I had it. Tires lose about 10 lbs of pressure over a weeks time. 4th s-10 I've owned. This 1999 is nickel and diming me to death.”
NHTSA complaint #10281268, filed 2009-08, 55,000 miles“The rims on this truck are junk! Mine started leaking at 40,000 miles 2nd set of tires. Mine as well did not see any snow for 4 years. The very 1st year it saw snow the rims were destroyed. I have to put fix a flat in my rims every so often which is making them out of balance all the time no matter what they do in the shop to balance them. I too am getting nickeled and dimed to death with all sorts of funky cheaply made parts in this truck. This is my 4th s-10, and by far the worst one I have ever owned.”
NHTSA complaint #10382986, filed 2011-02, 20,000 miles“For the second time my 1999 chevy s-10 pickup has been taken to the transmission shop because I have lost second gear and reverse. This is a costly repair, the first time it cost me $1,600.00 to replace a $44.00 part because the whole transmission had to be overhauled. The transmission in the chevy is made with inferior parts and should be recalled to have all the gears replaced. I have also had to replace both front wheel hubs and a motor. The s1-s of this era need to be investigated and the consumer should be protected!!”
NHTSA complaint #10165514, filed 2006-08, 78,000 miles“I was pulling into a parking lot and 3 lugs: nuts: bolts fell off of my right front wheel. The dealer was informed of this and performed repairs on it. The dealer was also the one who performed the last tire rotation. I asked them if that could've caused the problem and they told me that they did not know. I aslo have a copy of a recall notice on the rims of this truck. I asked the dealer about this and they said they were not aware of any recalls on this vehicle. This could've happend when I was driving on the road and caused a serious accident luckily it didn't.. …”
