“Ignition switch and key came out of steering column while driving. When I pulled off road and parked, the ignition switch internals and key came off in my hand. Not able to shut engine off. Called onstar, they could not shut off engine. Truck was flatbedded to dealer while still running. Risk of steering wheel locking causing loss of control. Steering wheel makes clattering noise not connected to wheels at times. Instruments dimming and flashing when turning wheel at times”
NHTSA complaint #10808137, filed 2015-12, 3,512 miles“On monday october 5, 2015, I was driving truck at approximately 60 MPH on highway when suddenly all electronics went black and complete loss of power on highway. Luckily, I was able to pull of to side of road. I turned the key to off position (engine was not running) and waited several minutes then turned truck on and it started. The traction light kept coming on and off but the truck did not loose power again-thankfully. I could have been killed or caused a serious accident.”
NHTSA complaint #10780654, filed 2015-10, 16,400 miles“After sitting for two days, I went out to start my 2015 Chevrolet Silverado to drive to town and it was dead - no power, lights, horn, ignition, nothing. The vehicle was absolutely stone cold dead. Having two decades in the car restoration business, I grabbed my battery charger and hooked it up and charged the battery for 4 hours. Attempting to start the Silverado again resulted in the same thing - stone cold dead. I swapped the batteries to no avail. The vehicle still wasn't powering up. I looked for blown fuses, loose connectors, all with negative results. …”
NHTSA complaint #10743675, filed 2015-07, 4,213 miles“Use this truck for commercial purposes to haul trailers. Truck has turned off while driving 4 times. Three while driving with trailer when it hits rough road or under construction road and takes hard jolt to front end. First you are driving, then you hit bump or dip in road and you notice you have no steering, when you look down you notice whole display is shut down ( like it was never on) with no warning lights displayed. You have to put truck into neutral while driving and restart. …”
NHTSA complaint #10776502, filed 2015-09, 37,000 miles“When shifting the vehicle out of park, if the tilt steering wheel is in the full up position, and the shift lever is pulled fully rearward so as to shift out of park, then the shift lever will hit and be stopped from moving by the ignition key. If you force the situation by pulling back and down with more than normal force, the key and key switch takes quite an abnormal load from the shift lever. I reported this to the local dealer and was told that this is normal, because someone else had reported the same problem. This is not normal. There is an easy solution to this problem. …”
