“In the period of 4 weeks I experienced two high speed tire failures while traveling on interstate 95 in virginia. In each case I was barely able to maintain vehicle control and pull off the road. In each case the tires were completely destroyed and off the rim. After the second case I chose to have all four tire replaced and prior to actual removal I checked the tire stem on one of the 2 remaining (not new tires) and discovered the valve stem had a split. The same was discovered on the other tire still on the vehicle. …”

NHTSA complaint #10213173, filed 2007-12, 59,000 miles

“Recently purchased (3 days ago) a 2003 Chevrolet Tahoe and both my wife and I noticed erratic behavior from speedometer. After much research and another family member with the same problem on a 2004 Tahoe, we realized that this was a serious safety issue that an extreme amount of other people were having. The speedometer sticks at different points while accelerating or decelerating, I wish to get this issue resolved as soon as possible via recall. Gm is well aware of this problem and it should issue a full recall on the instrument cluster to fix the problem. …”

NHTSA complaint #10262007, filed 2009-03, 72,300 miles

“I own a 2003 chevy Tahoe. I noticed in the fall of 2004 that my speedometer was beginning to be wrong - I would be running at 1,900 RPM, which for my vehicle is about 65 MPH, but the speedometer would only be showing 40 MPH. I took the Tahoe into my dealers service dept where they told me that the speedometer cluster was bad and would have to be replaced. I had an extended warranty, so this was not a problem. A new cluster was replaced on 12/6/04 when the Tahoe had 40,000. I now have over 108,000 miles on it and the replacement speedometer is now doing the same things the old one did. …”

NHTSA complaint #10222897, filed 2008-03, 108,100 miles

“Air conditioner, compressor, clutch and belt tensionor on Chevrolet Tahoe. Belt tensionor breaks locking up causing compressor clutch to sieze then causing compressor to disentergrate internally shooting internal components thru accumalator and inside vehicle climate control system. Serpentine belt tenstsionor could cause belt to break which drives the entire system to include power steering. This is a common problem for Chevrolet models, however it may only begin having the problem at 3-4 years of ownership therefore appearing to be a normal breakdown of components. …”
