“Around 65,000 miles I started to get a Shift to Park message when I tried to turn off the engine. The car was already in park. This is continuing to happen. I see that it has been an issue on this model since 2016. There needs to be a recall on this issue. You need to be able to turn off your car. Service Bulletins have been sent out but no recall.”

NHTSA complaint #11686876, filed 2025-09

“When returning home I had trouble turning off the vehicle. I was getting error to shift to park when it was already in park. Had to cycle multiple times before it registered it was in park. Less than 60k miles but does not appear as a recall and does not appear to be under warranty.”

NHTSA complaint #11712644, filed 2026-01

“When shifting my vehicle into Park, the message “Shift to Park” appears even though the gear lever is already in the Park position. The vehicle does not always recognize that it is in Park, which prevents it from fully shutting off and poses a potential rollaway or battery drain risk. Often the radio/bluetooth components remain on. This issue creates a safety concern when parking, especially on inclines or in public areas and I live on a dangerous steep driveway. …”

NHTSA complaint #11696102, filed 2025-10

“When attempting to put my 2022 Chevy Traverse in Park, the vehicle does not always recognize that it is in the Park position. As a result, the system will not allow me to fully turn off the engine or power down the vehicle. I often have to shift between gears and attempt to place it in Park multiple times before the vehicle senses it correctly. This issue occurs intermittently and poses both safety and usability concerns, as the vehicle may not be fully secured when I believe it is in Park.”

NHTSA complaint #11680208, filed 2025-08

“Nearly every time I go to turn the power off the screen says shift to park but it's in park. The engine turns off and the vehicle SEEMS to be in park, but who knows? Then it keeps dinging and won't turn off. When I walk away with the keys it honks at me. I'm assuming it eventually turns off, I've been setting the parking brake. I checked google and lots of people are talking about this issue - I would recommend GM do a recall for this as it's super annoying and potentially a safety issue if the vehicle doesn't know what gear its in.”
