“Engine hestiates. Engine mounts, lifter, timing chain and timing chain cover replaced. Vehicle completely stalled out. Dealer found large hole in engine where piston rod went through engine block. Transmission making clunk type noise and had to be repaired. Rack and pinion on steering had to be replaced.”
NHTSA complaint #10001576, filed 2003-01, 84,000 miles“The transmission slipped into low gear while traveling 70 miles per hour, which instantly slowed the vehicle down to 45 miles per hour. This occurred on a highway where the speed limit is 70 MPH. We were stuck in low gear. After we stopped and the vehicle sat a while, it would go back into high gear. This happened when we were several hundred miles from home. When we returned home, we had the transmission replaced.”
NHTSA complaint #711072, filed 1999-09“I have lost two starter engines in 90,000 miles, which appear to be component design flaws. The chronic stalling problem surfaced at 5,000 miles, and the chrysler technical center could not diagnose the problem. Stalling has occurred while driving the vehicle at <25 MPH (during left or right hand turns), which I believe is a safety hazard. Several times, a dealer cleaned the throttle body housing, but the problem would reoccur frequently. …”
NHTSA complaint #705887, filed 1999-04“When pulling into driveway vehicle was being placed into reverse and it jumped out of drive gear into second drive, and then jumped into first drive. Vehicle failed to respond. Consumer contacted service dealer, who determined that shift lever was bent. The shift lever was straightened and the problem was solved. The computer failed.”
NHTSA complaint #887660, filed 2001-05“Springs that hold rolling gear pin within transmission are not strong enough, and pin is turning sideways, causing it to lock up/ cannot go into gear. Consumer has replaced transmission 3 times at 90,000/ 110,000 miles and again a few weeks later. Manufacturer has issued a TSB, stating part is available that can be installed in transmission, and will prevent failure.”
