“2005 Dodge Caravan. I had an engine light come on and heard a clicking noise in the engine. I had it checked by a non-Dodge dealer and he researched and was told that this engine has had problems with cracked flywheels causing shifting problems. I thought it unusual that a main part such as a fly wheel would crack. I took it to classic Dodge in denton, tx and was told that the flywheel is cracked and needs to be replaced at a cost of $1080.00 have any other reports of this type been sent?”

NHTSA complaint #10312847, filed 2010-02, 77,200 miles

“I drove 2 hours on the highway and parked the car when I arrived at my destination. After 10 minutes I went to leave and I put the car in drive; it started cranking and started to roll backwards. Parts of my car started falling out of the transmission. My car only had 32,000 miles on it. The axel got caught in the transmission and broke all the pieces in the transmission. It took 3 weeks for my car to be repaid and I was not able to get a loaner car from Dodge even though I complained.I could have been killed if this had happened an hour earlier on the highway. …”

NHTSA complaint #10207717, filed 2007-11, 32,500 miles

“Cracked flywheel on 2005 Dodge Caravan with 60,000 miles. Have read or heard numerous complaints online and from garage owners about this faulty flywheel. Causes vehicle to lose all acceleration and jerk erratically. Very dangerous, especially in traffic. Flywheel replaced. Expensive.”

NHTSA complaint #10218982, filed 2008-02, 60,000 miles

“While traveling at 70 MPH on freeway, the van came to a total stall. It had to be towed off freeway. It was found the timing belt had been broken before the usual lifetime limit of 100,000 miles.”

NHTSA complaint #10375613, filed 2011-01, 79,000 miles

“Intermittent flashing of all interior lights and head lights. Headlights went out completely out and on again as driving to work in the dark. Power door locks stopped working, which renders child safety locks to not work. Occurs everyday. Had headlight switch assembly replaced and computer updates done to the bcm relay and PCM and transmission. Dealership cannot find a problem after work done. Work done solved problem for about 24 hour then issue resumed.”
