“While stopped at a light, another vehicle rear ended the consumer. The consumer proceeded to strike the vehicle in the front of him. Both passenger and driver seats collapsed. The driver seat fell onto the child passenger, breaking several bones in his face and had to undergo surgery.”
NHTSA complaint #10113531, filed 2005-03, 17,000 miles“While driving my Caravan the drivers seat back, fell back. I feel this is a safety hazard. The car has not been abused. We are not too heavy. If I had been on a winding mountain road or in the process of stopping my vehicle, it could have cause a deadly accident, as it was, it was a very startling experience. I am thankful that I was going at a reasonably slow speed. I can not see any excuse for a car seat to break, like this one has. If the drivers seat broke out of the clear blue sky, I am left to wonder about being in a accident with this car. …”
NHTSA complaint #769439, filed 2002-11“Consumer was sitting still at a traffic light, another vehicle traveling 50mph hit consumer in the rear & knocked vehicle 37 feet into rear of another vehicle. Upon impact, front airags didn't deploy & driver's seat broke. Vehicle is at junkyard.”
NHTSA complaint #875345, filed 2000-11“Drove vehicle, had to hit brakes hard, driver's seatback collapsed backwards & almost had an accident, reclining at 45 degree angle, taken to dealership, informed seat base was cracked & ordered part, part has not arrived yet.”
NHTSA complaint #807240, filed 1997-01“Sitting in driver's seat consumer wa spreparing to drive when all of a sudden seatback fell backward to a full reclinin position due to sea tadjuster cracking and breaking in half.”
