“The van silently stalls. So far it has only happened at low speeds. When this happens it becomes very hard to steer and brake. The first incident was during a u-turn with my 2yr old child and wife in the car. We ended up having to make use of the wheel chair ramp on the side walk. Mechanics have been unable to diagnose and unable to fix and this is still a problem.”

NHTSA complaint #10512719, filed 2013-05, 60,000 miles

“Since a dealer did a complete brake job on my 2006 Dodge Caravan, the parking brake won't release sometimes. It always happens after the vehicle sits with the parking brake on and it rains. The dealer said it's due to the type of material the brake shoes are made of, (oem parts too) so don't use the parking brake when it rains?!”

NHTSA complaint #10342807, filed 2010-07, 40,000 miles

“1 year old, 2006 Dodge Caravan, traveling on the highway, at 65 MPH, the rear right brake locked on. Smoke started to come out of the axle/wheel area, and once stopped, the car had trouble moving. Dealer repaired said they were adjusted to tight, but no work had been done, since regular maintenance 10 days and couple hundred miles previous.”

NHTSA complaint #10188522, filed 2007-04, 7,028 miles

“Tl- the contact owns a 2010 Dodge Caravan. The contact stated that the vehicle was taken to the dealer for routine maintenance when the contact was advised that the front brake was displaying abnormal wear, and would need to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact took the vehicle took to an independent mechanic, who advised that the rotors were destroyed and the calibers were abnormally fused to the brakes. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacture was alerted of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 31,569. K mj”

NHTSA complaint #10565295, filed 2014-02, 31,569 miles

“The 2006 Dodge Caravan uses a mixture of plastic and metal brake lines. The plastic lines are not safe. A couple months ago the left rear plastic brake line busted during driving and almost cause an accident. Yesterday the right rear plastic brake line busted and almost caused a crash (with family in the vehicle). The 2006 vehicle is not old; the lines should be more durable. There is no warning you've lost all your brake fluid until you push the brake pedal and it bottoms out and your vehicle doesn't stop.”
