“Windshield cracking for no apparent reason. I do not know the underlying cause however there are many people reporting this issue on social media sites. Some suspect welding/bonding issues resulting in flex causing the crack under stress. My car was sitting in the garage when the windshield cracked from the A-pillar inward. All videos, pictures submitted from others show the crack in a similar fashion. Driver/Passenger side from the A-Pillar. Some have provided pictures/videos of brand new cars sitting on the lot with the crack. Others are on their 2nd and 3rd windshield replacement.”

NHTSA complaint #11615902, filed 2024-09

“2023 Dodge Challenger was parked and not running. Opened driver's door and windshield cracked from pillar on passenger side. No prior stone chips, no prior cracks. Car had less than 3000 miles when crack occurred. Appears that windshield was not properly bonded to the vehicle. Paid Safelite $348.03 for windshield replacement.”

NHTSA complaint #11621282, filed 2024-10

“Windshield stress crack. From driver side A pillar across the windshield. Widely known factory defect issue. Causing many windshield replacements. No impact, no chips. This was due to improper bonding of the windshield during manufacturing, and body flex of the vehicle.”

NHTSA complaint #11713072, filed 2026-01
