“I purchased a 1993 Dodge Intrepid from a used car lot. 2 days later the car started smoking when going down a hill. Then the brake lights began to stick I have to pull up on the pedal to get them to go off and the steering wheel pops when going around a curve. Now the car sits at a repair shop needing a transmission because the drive and reverse gears failed leaving me with a bill of 800-2000 to repair it. I believe if the manufacturers would've done their job right in the beginning alot more people would be proud to own a Dodge!”

NHTSA complaint #10010774, filed 2003-03, 120,000 miles

“We have had nothing but problems with this car since it was purchased. We have had to purchase a rebuilt transmission and catalytic converter and are now experiencing problems with the exterior paint coroding, the constant smell of gasoline inside the car, the passenger side air-bag is buckling, the cup holders have broken, and the list goes on!”

NHTSA complaint #700779, filed 1998-11

“When backing the vehicle out of a parking stall, a loud clunk was heard ... And then a loud rotary clunking noise. The vehicle would no longer move ... And the rotary clunking noise could be heard in all forward and reverse gears (I.e., all gears except park & neutral). The vehicle was towed to an aamco shop. The tow truck driver noticed that the passenger-side front suspension was torn from the frame ... And I noted that the passenger-side front wheel/tire was no longer centered in the wheel well (moved substantially forward). …”

NHTSA complaint #717692, filed 2000-01

“The transmission had a shudder between 35-45 MPH and the transmission had to be rebuilt. Upon further investigation, I found that this is a major problem for chrysler and Dodge vehicles. Also during this research I found that the air conditioner had many problems which I also had to replace. I ffel that since this has occurredso often that it definately is a design problem and chrysler should be fixing these problems. My charge came to $1700 and I feel that Dodge should be picking up the bill. The air conditioner just plain stopped working. …”

NHTSA complaint #717601, filed 2000-01

“The contact owns a 1993 Dodge Intrepid. While the vehicle was parked with the key removed from the ignition, a 12-year old child entered the vehicle from the passenger side. The vehicle rolled backwards downhill and struck a tree. The 12-year old stated that he did not touch the gears, but the vehicle was placed in reverse at the bottom of the hill. There were no injuries. The driver side tail light, the passenger window, and a dent in the rear of the vehicle were the only damages. …”
