“I stopped at a stop sign, turned left, accelerated to about 35 MPH and heard a clunk , the engine stopped running and I coasted to the side of the road, got out and looked under the hood and saw the timing chain sticking through the housing. I called a tow truck and had the vehicle towed to a repair shop. The repair shop is waiting for the after-market warranty company to decide what they will pay for and what is to be done.”

NHTSA complaint #10299663, filed 2010-01, 60,300 miles

“I was driving home from having body work done, the engine light came on, then 3 seconds later the motor stalled. I put transmission in neutral and started the engine and drove for 50 feet before it happened again. This time engine would not restart. I pulled off the road and called the company that did the body work. They retrieved the car soon after. Subsequently, was told my engine failed due to lack of maintenance, ie; oil change.”

NHTSA complaint #10339526, filed 2010-06, 30,000 miles

“I have a 2000 Dodge Intrepid, purchased at 54,000 miles. I have already replaced the transmission and the front wheel bearings roar very bad, A/C went out needs evaporator, and the car rarely starts unless you rock the whole car, I am very displeased and no one will trade it in , when the transmission went out the car pulled to the left and I ran off the road.”

NHTSA complaint #10023525, filed 2003-06, 54,000 miles

“Our 2000 Dodge Intrepid transmission went in to the limp mode (locked in to second gear). Took to dealer. Needed to replace the input and transmission range sensors. Other internet sites indicate that there have been 32 TSB's on these transmissions and that the dealer should bill chrysler for any repairs. Can this be confirmed and what can I do about it? Secondly, I had to pay for cleaning carbon from the throttle body system. Previously, I had a 93 Dodge Intrepid and had to pay for the same service. …”

NHTSA complaint #10070771, filed 2004-01, 40,742 miles

“Engine in 2000 chrysler Intrepid started tapping noise at 58017km brought to dealer with complaint, told they would not take engine apart to check noise. I told them I had been told that the 2.7 engine had problems with sludge that prevented the oil from circulating properly. They still refused to check engine. At just over 62000 km engine became noisy. Brought it back to dealer who kept the car for two weeks, then told me engine needed to be replaced at a cost of $6500.00 and there would be no warranty coverage or goodwill. …”
