2007: “The plastic gas tank on my 2007 Ducati monster 695 is expanding, the rubber mounts that hold it to the frame have now completely overlapped the frame on one side, and it is expanding over the ignition switch and putting considerable pressure on it. I don't know how much more it will expand before it cracks somewhere. The vehicle has not been modified, it is completely stock from the factory.”
NHTSA complaint #10354561, filed 2010-09, 5,300 miles2008: “My motorcycle has a plastic gas tank which has begun to expand. The outside dimensions of the tank have increased and it now does not sit correctly in the frame and it presses against the ignition switch. Previously it opened and closed without problems, now I have to wedge it against the ignition switch to close it. The rubber mounts no longer sit correctly on the frame. I have not modified my motorcycle and I have made no modifications to the fuel tank or fuel pump. …”
NHTSA complaint #10339111, filed 2010-06, 1,800 miles2009: “While riding on my 2009 Ducati MONSTER 696 motorcycle, I noticed a rubbing sound and felt a sensation of oscillation. When I finally stopped the vehicle, I noticed that the front sprocket of the chaindrive slipped on the transmission spline causing the chain to run out of alignment and acted as a chainsaw cutting into the rear swing arm. I was able to stop the vehicle before an accident could happen. There is significant damage (estimated at $3000). No repairs have occurred yet and wont until I hear from NHTSA. I have photographs of the damage and the motorcycle can be easily inspected.”
