NHTSA complaint #10145640, filed 2005-12, 194,000 miles“Timing belt tensioner bolt snapped. Resultant timing belt failure bent the intake valves. This required the head to be rebuilt. Timing belt had been replaced at 61,000 miles in november of 2001 as part of scheduled 60,000 mile maintenance. This automobile is a sister vehicle of the mitsubishi eclipse and this problem has been previously reported there (odi id 745661 - another possible report is made on odi id 884276). Based on conversation with mechanic I believe this problem has occurred significantly more often than has been reported to the NHTSA. …”
