“While merging from a secondary road onto a state highway, vehicle experienced unexpected acceleration at such a high rate of speed that operator lost control of vehicle. Acceleration continued and vehicle did not respond despite brake being applied. Vehicle ran off roadway and sustained front end and undercarriage damage.”

NHTSA complaint #10112111, filed 2005-02, 445 miles

“On a 2005 Ford CVPI, operator accelerated. When she hit the brake to slow, the vehicle continued to accelerate. She released the brake, ensuring that she had her entire foot off and away from both pedals, and attempted to brake again. The vehicle continued to accelerate. Only after standing on the brake with two feet, did the accelerator release. Had the vehicle continued to accelerate another 100 yards, she would have lost control on a sharp curve and crashed.”
