Selected from NHTSA records; personal details are removed. They are consumer reports, not findings.

“Our 2002 f-350 cruise control engaged itself and went to full throttle while we were stopped. A four car fender bender was the result. Had this happened at higher speed, it could have been considerably more serious. The cruise control took over control of the vehicle!!”

NHTSA complaint #10228962, filed 2008-05, 185,992 miles

“Periodically, when setting the cruise control at different speeds, it won't immediately engage, which means that there is a loss of speed of around 5 MPH. Then it will engage, kick down a gear, and accelerate super quick. Scary if you are not prepared.”

NHTSA complaint #10969323, filed 2017-03, 134,000 miles

“The contact owns a 2002 Ford f350sd . While driving approximately 50 MPH up a hill, the vehicle would perform as if it were in neutral. The contact would press on the accelerator pedal and the vehicle would not accelerate. When the vehicle finally reached the top of the hill and is on a flat surface, the accelerator will engage . The dealer had been contacted and they stated they would have to diagnose the vehicle . The vehicle had not been repaired. The failure mileage was 170000 and the current mileage was 175000.”

NHTSA complaint #10355767, filed 2010-09, 170,000 miles

“The contact owns a 2002 Ford f350 super duty. While driving at any speed, the vehicle speed control will activate on its own. The only way to deactivate the cruise control is to stand on the brake pedal and press the off switch. The failure occurred intermittently, which almost caused a crash. The contact's wife has been able to shut off the cruise control before crashing into anyone. The dealer attempted to repair the failure, but was unsuccessful. The vehicle has been to the dealer on approximately six occasions, but there is no remedy. …”

NHTSA complaint #10235763, filed 2008-07, 50,000 miles

“The contact stated while applying pressure to the accelerator pedal at low speeds the vehicle accelerates. Although the dealer was alerted no appointment for inspection was made.”

NHTSA complaint #10153336, filed 2006-03, 90,000 miles
