“Over the last two years, our 2008 Ford f-450 has been into Ford service several times related to the emissions control system. Specifically the regeneration process. The truck goes into the regeneration mode and over the last week has instantaneously shut the engine, braking, and steering systems down without so much as a 5 second warning. Thus, causing immediate danger to myself and my families health, safety, and life (along with others on the highway).with this vehicle, when this has occurred, we were towing an 15k pound, 40 foot fifth wheel. …”

The contact stated while driving 55 MPH he felt as if the vehicle was losing power of the steering wheel and brakes. The vehicle was taken to the dealer for diagnosis. The dealer stated that the power steering box needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not contacted. The failure and the current mileage was 55,000. The steering wheel became inoperable and after engaging the brakes, the vehicle coasted to a stop. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic and diagnosed that the steering column bolt was fractured. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 170,000.”

While driving 68 MPH, the contact drove over a bump in the road and the vehicle shut off and the steering wheel locked. The same failures occurred the previous day. The vehicle was diagnosed by the dealer, but the failures still persists. The current and failure mileages were 43,520.”
NHTSA complaint #10231366, filed 2008-06, 43,520 miles“The contact owns a 2008 Ford F-450 SD. While driving, the radiator busted. In addition, the high pressure pump failed while towing a boat. While driving approximately 65 MPH, the steering wheel froze while attempting to exit the interstate. The contact pulled the steering wheel hard to the right until it popped and then the vehicle began to drive normally. The vehicle has been taken to the dealer approximately three times regarding these failures. The current mileage was 64,000 and failure mileage was 4. Update 09/10/08 the consumer stated the power steering locked up. Updated 09/15/08”
