Example complaints
Engine cooling: “There was a slight ticking noise coming from engine bay that I thought was an exhaust leak. Eventually the spark plug blew out of the head stripping the top threads out of the aluminum head. In order to fix the car, I had to have a local shop helicoil the head to add threads to the head.”
NHTSA complaint #10174364, filed 2006-11, 123,850 milesVehicle speed control: “Unpredictable problem. Occasionally, 5 to 15 seconds after I first start my 1999 Mustang Gt, the engine will rapidly increase in RPM and then return to normal. If the car is in drive or reverse and I do not have my foot firmly on the brake, the car will jump forward or backward. I notice the problem mostly when I first put the car in reverse. It may happen 3 or 4 times in one month and may not happen again for 2 or 3 months. If you do not have the brake applied firmly, I think the car could easily jump 5 feet before getting a foot on the brake. I currently have 29,000 miles on my car. …”
NHTSA complaint #10005675, filed 2003-02, 100 milesElectrical system: “Battery was charging because amp was draining the battery. Vehicle would have to be jumped. Dealer replaced amp, and they said it was a design flaw. Vehicle would get stuck in reverse. Problem was intermittent. Management a dealership said it will happen time to time.”
