“Car has erratic idle at times and rpms will stick sometimes well above normal idle. It is ecu that is causing the problem. Quite a few of my friends experience this problem with the Geo storms. A recall is in order if you ask me!”
NHTSA complaint #745100, filed 2001-05“During warm weather the vehicle's throttle will stick at 2000. Through my research I have found this to be the fault of the ecu. It is a very dangerous thing to have your throttle stick. Dt”
NHTSA complaint #769901, filed 2002-11“I've have experienced problems of erratic idle speed, the engine revving and dropping uncontrolably and sporadic dying of the engine when I press in the clutch. The problem has been traced to my delco electronic control module being faulty. This faulty module unfortuately controls all of the functions of the car including idle. This is a hazard to me and others, the erratic idle has causes my (manual) car to lurch forward uncontrolably, during take-off. The sporadic dying causes the most danger. …”
NHTSA complaint #708586, filed 1999-07“The problem I have been experiencing with my 1991 Geo Storm gsi, is everytime I'm at a red-light or stop sign with the car at a complete stop, my idle will shoot up from the normal 800-900 rpms, to 2,000-3,000 rpms. This is very dangerous on a automatic transmission equipped Storm, since you have to firmly press on the brake pedal very hard to prevent the car from lurking forward and hitting a car in front of you, or injuring or even killing a walking pedestrian that happens to be crossing the street. …”
NHTSA complaint #708032, filed 1999-06“Idle becomes rough, bounces and dies, fails to start or starts and check engine light is on, runs very bad. Once car sits for a while, starts to run fine, does it when it is warm out.”
