Example complaints

Selected from NHTSA records; personal details are removed. They are consumer reports, not findings.

“I love my car and this is the only thing that has ever happened to it. The car is hard to keep standing at the light, it tries to pull forward. I sometimes have to shut it off.”

NHTSA complaint #719243, filed 2000-02

“Since the car had about 75,00mi each time summer arrives the engine will not properly idle. If you place the toe under the accelerater pedal and pull up, the idle returns to normal. This has been a recurring problem for the past two years and only occurs when the weather is hot and the car is driven at slower speeds (under 40mph).”

NHTSA complaint #707932, filed 1999-06

“Car stalls randomly until it reaches running temp, idles poorly at running temp, and surges or idles very high randomly, when in gear this surging has almost caused 2 accidents.”

NHTSA complaint #745970, filed 2001-05

“Rpms rev up and down... Car dies... Insulative spray that manufacturer uses on the computer shinks and contracts with changing temperatures and breaks the solder at the computer causing misfires at idle and thoughout all driving speeds and ranges, engine revving up and down, engine dying, and RPM holding at 2000 RPM GM knows about the fault in there computers...they refuse to fix it at their expense... They used this spray on insulators on 85-93 delco computers... They use a new spray on 95 and up, but don't on factory reconditionerd ecu's prior to 1995.”

NHTSA complaint #766119, filed 2002-08
