“Have had recurring problems with windshield wipers/washer fluid not working during critical times of need (I.e. Torrential down pours, snow, etc.). Finally found that 1994 Gmc trucks were recalled because of faulty workmanship in the wiper motor, but my truck was manufactured 20,000 models too soon. This defect almost caused me to have a severe accident during a recent storm. Now, we have a hurricane coming and can't even get a dealer to look at the problem........aggravating!”

NHTSA complaint #10038974, filed 2003-09, 88,000 miles

“I am experiencing intermittent problems with my wipers not working on a 1994 Gmc Sierra pickup. This problem has happened several times. Each time this happened the road conditions are wet and without the aid of the wipers working properly visibility is near zero. This creates a dangerous condition while in heavy traffic. No warning signals are given when the wipers will or will not work. Most recently I called a Gmc customer service representative and his response was that with the age of the truck this problem was considered normal wear. …”

NHTSA complaint #10162302, filed 2006-07, 100,000 miles

“Windshield either fails to operate or will stop while turned on. This happened while I was passing a semi in a light rain. I was able to slow down & get over to the side of the road until the rain stopped. This should have been covered in the NHTSA recall no. 03v151/GM recall no. 03025. My vehicle was built in dec. Of 1993, so hasn't been included. I do not feel safe using the vehicle if there is a chance of rain due to what has happened. The first time it occurred in 1991 & at first was so intermittent that I didn't know what was causing it. …”

NHTSA complaint #10028440, filed 2003-07, 102,000 miles

“The windshield wipers work intermittently. The consumer has been caught on several occasions in the rain and the windshield wipers did not work. This vehicle was included in the windshield wiper NHTSA recall 98v150001. The consumer would firmly hit the wiper motor with his hand 2 or 3 times. They would start then stop during the rain.”

NHTSA complaint #10115137, filed 2005-04, 110,000 miles

“Windshield wipers quit working and stuck in the upward position when in use. Windshield wipers may or may not restart. This reduced the driver's visibility. Dealership indicated that the windshield wiper circuit board was bad, and needed to be replaced.”

NHTSA complaint #10061554, filed 2004-03, 100,000 miles
