“Had full-size pick-up truck with 4 open country 410 tires from toyo with approximately 59,000 miles on them. Tires were regularly rotated and pressure checked. While traveling on freeway at 70 MPH the right rear tire blew out with tread peeling off like a banana peel on highway. Tail pipe was bent and rear quarter panel sustained nearly $900 in body damage. Filled out claim form with toyo, but of course it was *denied*. They claimed the tire failed to due a service related issue and not the result of any act or omission on the part of toyo tire . …”
NHTSA complaint #10082220, filed 2004-07, 143,000 miles“I have checked several times over the last year concerning recall of these tires. They never seem to fall in any of the recalls even under the recent recall by firestone for tires after 1998. In checking with several tires stores in our area I have been told that the only reason that they are not under the recall is that they are not on a ford product. This seems to me to be ludicious since these tires are known to fail and are on a veh of similar weight and characteristics to the ford products. I want to know why firestone is not replacing these tires. …”
NHTSA complaint #753632, filed 2001-10“Tires were purchased new on 01/08/03. While driving consumer felt vibration in vehicle. Upon inspection noticed that air pressure in left front and rear tires was very low. Consumer placed spare on rear tire and inflated front tire in order to make it to home. When consumer arrived home discovered left front tire had a bubble the size of a football. Tires were not original. Vehicle is a 1995 Gmc 3/4 ton Sierra pickup.”
NHTSA complaint #10002462, filed 2003-01“Goodyear wrangler apt tire p245/75r15 experienced tread separation, damage to vehicle caused by flapping rubber, consumer submitted claim, however there has not been any response yet.”
